A-Pod is an ant inspired hexapod robot that has a 2 dof “tail” and a 3 dof head with a total of 25 servos to drive it.
This video demonstrates body movement and mandible control. I still have to do some mechanical improvements to the legs (therefore little walking). The addition of the head adds so much character, add some face tracking and it would really blow us away.
The robot are remotely controlled with a custom 2,4 GHz RC transmitter. The Basic Atom Pro 28 are used as the main microcontroller. Visit www.basicmicro.com for more info about the BAP28.
The sheer articulation and believable motion here made this robot worthy of a post all it’s own. Well, after it fetched us a beer. He notes that he’s still working on the leg mechanicals, so it doesn’t do much walking yet.
